美国RPI大学的Prof.Sufei Shi欢迎浙大信电学院的优秀本科生或硕士生,申请RPI大学攻读博士。具体信息如下:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI-USA)

Prof. Sufei Shi  is looking for highly motivated students with a background in Physics or Engineering to join the ultrafast nanoscale optoelectronics group in Howard P. Isermann Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute starting from the fall of 2016.

The interested students should apply to the graduate program (http://admissions.rpi.edu/graduate/admission/index.html) of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, or the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before the deadline, which is January 1st, 2016. I am recruiting students interested in Experimental Nano-optics and Nano-optoelectronics, with a focus on optical spectroscopy, optoelectronics or material science. The interested applicants can mention my name in your application and are also welcome to contact me via: shis2@rpi.edu.

We also welcome visitors and strive to provide a hospital and productive environment for them.

My research is focused on the investigation and manipulation of electron-photon interactions in structures and devices based on two-dimensional materials, and includes both fundamental study and practical implementation of novel electronic and optoelectronic devices. More specially, my research includes: 1) Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) growth of 2D materials and their related heterostructure 2) Fabrication of electronic and optoelectronic devices based on 2D materials and other quantum materials. 3) Electrical transport and photocurrent measurement of 2D-materials-based devices. 4) Development of scanning photocurrent microscopy, ultrafast transient absorption microscopy. 5) Development of other optical spectroscopy, particularly in a confocal microscopy setup. In short, my research strength lies on the unprecedentedly unique spectroscopy tool which is a combination of low temperature electrical transport measurement and broadband, ultrafast optical spectroscopy. By exploiting this unique spectroscopy tool on our novel materials preparation and device fabrication, we not only obtain fundamental insight of electron-photon interactions at reduced dimensions but also gain the knowledge to develop novel electronic and optoelectronic devices which are crucial for future applications.     Founded in 1824, RPI is one of the oldest engineering schools in the U.S. (http://www.rpi.edu/about/video/index.html). It is a small but prestigious Engineering Institute with 7 graduate programs ranked in the top-25 among all (public and private) universities (USN&WR) and 6 graduate programs ranked in the top-10 among private universities (USN&WR). According to USNEWS 2014, CBE at RPI ranked 22th and ECSE ranked 26 among all universities in US and both ranked top 10 among private universities.

RPI is located in Troy, NY. It is minutes away from Albany, which is the capital of New York State. It is only 150 miles north of New York City, 175 miles west of Boston. It enjoys all the life convenience of a medium city, as well as good connections to many Universities and National Laboratories nearby.  Albany is also the technology harbor along the east coast and hosts headquarters for many companies such as IBM, GE, Global Foundry, Samsung etc. Students will have great exposure to academic atmosphere or industry experience, depending on his/her personal preference.
