Abstract: The NAND flash memory has become one of the largest and fastest-growing segments of the semiconductor industry. In this talk, I will first unveil the basic mechanism and configuration of flash memories, which are still largely secretive to academics. I will then show how signal processing can be applied to enhance endurance/throughput. Finally, I will demonstrate why many academically celebrated signal processing methodologies for flash memory are actually impractical.
Resume: Dr. Yingquan Wu( 吴英全博士) is a senior member of IEEE (M'07--SM'08). He received both the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from Harbin Institute of Technology, P.R. China in July 1996 and July 1997, respectively. In August 2000, he received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo. In October 2004, he received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Wu at present works at Link A Media Devices Corp., Santa Clara, CA, where he is responsible for developing algorithms and architectures for error control coding and digital signal processing in solid-state-drive controller. Dr. Wu's research interests lie in the areas of algebraic coding theory, soft-decision decoding techniques, and the efficient design of VLSI micro-architectures.
本次报告是这学期最后一场学术报告,请感兴趣的同学,尤其是签到未满3次的同学积极参加。
