【专家介绍】Dr. Mohammed I. Al-Suwaiyel 默罕默德▪ 苏韦仪博士

Dr. Al-Suwaiyel was born in Al-Mahad, Saudi Arabia, in 1950. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1979 from the University of Southern California. He was a Professor and Dean of Computer Science and Engineering College at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) from 1972 to 1990. He was appointed President of The King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in 2006 and then appointed Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Saudi Arabia 2015 till 2017.

【报告内容】Arab Origins of Cryptology

Cryptology has a history that goes back more than 4000 years. However, the techniques of cryptology started as ad hoc methods, and remained so until the 9th century. This talk will review the timeline of Cryptology before and after the discovery of some cryptologic manuscripts, discuss their impact on the history of cryptology, and summarize the highlights of the valuable scientific contents of Al-Kindi's manuscript and selected works by other Arabic cryptologists in the period 700-1400 AD.
