Multidisciplinary Achievement of Prof. Dong Shurong's Team: a New Method of Malleable Electronic Design for Precise Targeting of Target Muscle Measurement

Date:2021-06-02

Prof. Dong Shurong's team developed a new malleable electronic design method and a corresponding surface electromyography analysis method, cooperating for two years with Prof. Xie Zhenwei's team from The Affiliated Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Zhejiang University. Following the idea of flexible integration, the new method develops a new balloon-type flexible electrode with its adaptive evaluation method to achieve precise collection of female pelvic floor electromyography and comprehensive analysis of key muscles. It has been verified in PFM, the most complex pelvic floor muscle group in the human body.

This research is published in the May 2021 issue of Advanced Science. The first author of the paper is doctoral student Wang Shengming. With the support of key projects in Zhejiang Province, the relevant results have been carried out for more than one year of multi-center clinical verification, and are currently in the industrialization stage. The results have been applied for international PCT patent protection.

The key innovation of the research includes:

1.  Developed a new type of airbag electrode probe (ASEA) and designed electrode pairs with specific flexion wiring, which can achieve accurate collection of 24 female pelvic floor of muscle EMG and targeted electrical stimulation, as shown in Figure 1;

2.  Benefiting from the high-quality bioelectric signals provided by ASEA, the team further designed an accurate muscle unit evaluation method (MUEM). Clinical trials have shown that MUEM has successfully revealed the specificity of muscles in different situations, as shown in Figure 2.

This research not only provides brand-new precision evaluation technology and targeted therapy technology for pelvic floor rehabilitation, but also provides new design ideas for the application of malleable electronic technology in the field of diagnosis and treatment technology. It is a revolutionary novel precision diagnosis and treatment technology.
