This course covers circuit level design issues of high speed communication systems, with primary focus being placed on wireless and broadband data link applications, as well as the implemented of the circuits and system in silicon-based technologies. Specific circuit topics include high speed and low noise amplifiers, Trans-impedance amplifier (TIA), Voltage-Controlled Oscillator, mixers, power amps, high-speed (GHz to tens of GHz range) digital circuits, frequency synthesizers and clock-date recovery (CDR) circuits. In addition to learning analysis skills for the above items, students will gain a significant amount of experience in simulating RF circuits in Cadence Spectre RF and also building RF circuits within a lab project.
