Abstract:

Smart antenna (or phased array) is the most critical technology for space-borne synthetic aperture radars (SAR), satellite communications and the next generation 5G mobile communications. This talk will present a review of recent development of smart antennas for space-borne SAR applications. Then, the most recent example, a digital beamforming dual-band X/Ka dual-polarized space-borne SAR system for low-cost small satellites, will be introduced. System design considerations and results of smart antennas will be presented and discussed. A conclusion and future overview will be given in the end.

Biography:

高式昌博士,英国肯特大学教授、微波技术学科带头人。主要研究领域包括天线技术(智能天线，相控阵，卫星天线,宽带和多频段天线,天线阵,天线小型化)、微波/毫米波电路(微波功率放大器、滤波器)、射频系统、卫星移动通信、星载合成孔径雷达等。

高式昌博士1999-2001年在新加坡国立大学做博士后，2001-2002年在英国伯明翰大学做研究员,2002-2007年在英国诺森比亚大学任副教授、天线与微波研究室负责人, 2007-2012年在英国萨里卫星中心任副教授、卫星天线与微波研究室负责人。2013年任英国肯特大学教授。他也在其它的一些著名大学做过访问学者：2003年在瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院(ETHZ)做访问研究员，2005年1-6月在美国加利福尼亚大学(UCSB)做访问教授，2005年8-9月、2013年6-7月在日本千叶大学做访问研究员等。

高式昌博士是西北工业大学(中国)、意大利卡拉布瑞尔大学的客座教授。他编著了2本书：他与美国航天局Imbraile等编著“Space Antenna Handbook”（英国John Wiley出版, 2012）及 “Circularly Polarized Antennas”（ 2014年由美国IEEE和英国Wiley联合出版发行）。在国际学术期刊和国际会议上发表论文180余篇, 并有多个专利。获2002年国际无线电联盟青年科学家奖 (URSI Young Scientist Award), 2003年英国努菲而德 优秀教师奖, 2005年英国高等教育局的杰出研究员奖, 2005年日本科学促进会的研究员奖, 2012年英国拉夫堡举行的国际天线和电波传播会议最佳论文奖等。2014年高教授被评为英国IET的会士(Fellow) 、国际电子和电气工程学会(IEEE)的杰出演讲(Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE AP-S)。高教授领导完成多个英国国家基金委、欧盟第七框架 (EC FP7)的重大研究项目。他是2013年在英国举行的国际天线与传播学术会议(LAPC 2013)的主席、2012年国际无线通信系统和网络会议(CSNDSP)的专题主席 (Chair of Special Session)等。他是“IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation”专辑客座主编(Guest Editor for Special Issue on Antennas for Satellite Communications), 美国地球物理学会“Radio Science”的副主编，美国“International Journal of Space Science and Engineering” 、英国“IET Circuits, Devices and Systems”、中国 “电波科学学报”等学术刊物的编委。2014年高教授被英国Wiley出版社邀请担任 “微波与无线技术”系列丛书的责任主编。
